Medical Mission: Alay Arriba sa Sta. Maria
As a 4th class municipality located far from the growth centers of the province of Laguna, the people of Sta. Maria desire for greater and better quality of social and medical services. The situation is further compounded by typhoon Ondoy which effects brought flooding that claimed several lives, destruction of crops, farmlands, private and public establishments. Though a medical mission addresses only a segment of the above mentioned needs, it is hoped that it will serve as a concrete step to assist the people of the municipality rise from encountered difficulties and move towards the desired community well being.
Furthermore, the project would serve also as a simple expression of deep gratitude to the people of Sta.Maria, Laguna for their consistently warm reception of the Colegio’s programs and activities since 2001. They have provided a rich milieu for students, faculty and employees to ground theories discussed in the classrooms and concepts utilized in the departments during integration activities with the community members.
The project offers free medical services and medicines to selected indigents from all 25 barangays of Sta. Maria, Laguna. Letran-Calamba, spearheaded by the Community and Extension Services Department, cooperates with the Departments of Nursing and the Graduate School of the Colegio, UST Medical Missions, Inc., and other volunteer doctors and medical students.
The activity will be held on November 14, 2009 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Talangka Elementary School, Brgy. Talangka, Sta. Maria, Laguna. Its intended beneficiaries are 1000 medical patients and 50 minor surgical patients.
