Letran Calamba Won In The 1st National Tourism Skills Olympic
Just recently, the Tourism and HRM students gave the Colegio honor and recognition by winning in the 1st National Tourism Skills Olympics organized by the League of Tourism Students of the Philippines in Baguio City last March 3, 2012.
The School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management of the University of Baguio hosted the event. Participants are from 13 different colleges and universities around Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The Colegio won in the following categories: 2nd place (silver medal) in the Nature and Scenic Photography, participated by Mr. Harold Alvea (4th year HRM); 3rd place (bronze medal) Virtual Tour Guiding composed of Harold Alvea and Nikola Mari Daduya (3rd year BSTM); 3rd place Tour package proposal represented by the tandem of Harold Alvea and Nikola Mari Daduya; and 4th place Quiz Bee, through the effort of Sierralyn General(1st year BSTM), Nicola Mari Daduya and Anne Reinalyn Indicio(3rd year BSTM). Moreover their mentors were: Ms. Belinda Sablan, Ms. Grace Gison, Ms. Michelle Ventanilla, Mr. Cesar Alejandro and Mr. Alex C. Cecilio. Likewise the support extended by the Tourism students, faculty members, administrators gave the team all the confidence they need to win the event.
Participation in this kind of event helps the students in honing their acquired skills, aside from the opportunity to be exposed in their field of expertise. Their accomplishments prove that they are responding positively to the Colegio’s mission of quality education.
